Mortuary

A Mortuary, or any department where post-mortem examinations take place, is generally licensed and inspected by a regulatory authority. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, mortuaries are governed by the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) and in Scotland information about regulation is provided by Health Scotland.

As per the Guidelines set out by the Human Tissue Authority on the temperature monitoring of storage locations for example, mortuary establishments should ensure that they have robust temperature monitoring and alarm arrangements for all body storage facilities in their mortuary, or on their post-mortem premises.

External temperature alarm systems can prove to be an effective solution, if they trigger both when storage temperatures are too warm as well as when they are too cold. They do need to be regularly tested to ensure their effectiveness however.
